Tanzanite is a stone of transmutation, changing from lilac-blue to sapphire blue and into deep blue-violet. Discovered in 1967 this beautiful stone is blue-violet zoisite and occurs as blue, purple, brown and yellow. This gemstone was named Tanzanite by Tiffany and Co after Tanzania, the country in which it was discovered. In 2002, the American Gem Trade Association chose Tanzanite as a December birthstone. Tanzanite is, no longer being mined (at the time of writing 12/2019) and is therefore becoming relatively rare and costly.
